THE COMMODORE

Some objects illuminate a room. Others define it.

COMMODORE ORIGIN IMAGE

It came from years of shaping how rooms feel. Stages. Venues. Film sets. At some point I wanted to make the thing that stays in the room after everyone leaves.

It started with a sketch. An idea of how light should play across three levels of detail.

The pattern. A lattice that interlocks to form the body.

The shape. Three stacked lobes, one quiet silhouette.

The spill. How the light leaves the lamp and settles into the room.

Getting all three to agree took a long run of trial and error. Print, light, look, adjust. Again. Until nothing needed to change.

Light passes through the lattice and comes back softer. Shadow and glow at once. This is where light defines, reveals and reciprocates becomes something you can hold.

It is made for the listening hour. A record on. The room quieter. One warm light.

IT IS TUNED, NOT SWITCHED ON.

THE NAME

A nod to an era of music, and to The Commodores and their style. A nod to the first home computers, and the first time a lot of us played. And a name with character of its own.
